By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Policy, do not use the Service.

Account information, such as your username, email address, profile image, display name, bio, and securely processed login credentials used for authentication;
Third-party sign-in information, such as unique identifiers, display names, profile images, and other information you authorize a third-party account provider such as Google or GitHub to share with us;

1.2 Information We Collect Automatically
When you access or use the Service, we may automatically collect certain technical and usage information, including:
Device and network information, such as IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, language settings, access times, app version, and approximate geographic location such as country or city level;
Usage information, such as how you interact with the Service, which features you access, session duration, error logs, crash reports, performance data, and basic diagnostic information;
Information collected through cookies and similar technologies, such as information used to keep you signed in, remember preferences, analyze traffic, or improve the product experience. You can manage these technologies through your browser or device settings, although doing so may affect some features.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
provide, operate, and maintain the Service;
create and manage accounts, verify identity, and provide sign-in and sync functionality;
process payments, manage subscriptions, provide order records, and offer customer support;
provide search, sync, backup, export, recovery, and other core features;

comply with legal obligations, enforce our terms, and protect our rights, users, and the public.
3. AI Features
The Service may include AI features provided by us or by third-party providers.
Only when you actively use an AI feature may your selected input, necessary context, and related instructions be sent to third-party AI providers in order to generate results or fulfill your request.
We do not intentionally send more content than is reasonably necessary for a single AI request, but you understand that some context may be required for the feature to function properly.
AI providers may process related data in accordance with their own terms and privacy policies. Unless we clearly state otherwise, you should not submit highly sensitive personal data, payment data, government identification numbers, trade secrets, or other confidential information to AI features.
4. Legal Bases for Processing
Where required by applicable law, including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and similar jurisdictions, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases to process personal information:
performance of a contract, such as creating your account, providing sync, processing subscriptions, and delivering requested features;
legitimate interests, such as securing the Service, analyzing performance, fixing issues, preventing abuse, and improving the product;
your consent, such as where required for optional cookies, certain marketing communications, or specific optional features you choose to use;
compliance with legal obligations, such as tax, accounting, law enforcement cooperation, or regulatory requirements.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share your information in the following circumstances:
Service providers. We may share information with third-party service providers that help us provide the Service, such as providers of cloud infrastructure, data storage, payment processing, analytics, customer support, authentication, and AI functionality;
Payment and subscription providers. If you purchase paid features, transactions may be processed by third-party payment providers, including Lemon Squeezy. Those providers may act as merchant of record and may handle payments, taxes, billing, invoicing, renewals, refunds, and related matters;
Legal and safety. We may disclose information where we reasonably believe doing so is necessary to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or government request, or to investigate, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues, or to protect our rights, property, safety, or those of our users or others;
Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, asset sale, or similar transaction, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable privacy commitments unless you are informed otherwise.
6. Data Storage and Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide the Service, perform our contractual obligations, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect the security of the Service.
If you delete content, close your account, or request deletion, we will delete or anonymize relevant information within a reasonable period unless we are required by law to retain it, or unless temporary retention is reasonably necessary for backup, security, audit, dispute resolution, or fraud prevention purposes.
Backup copies may remain for a limited period as part of normal overwrite cycles.
7. Local-First and BYOS
Akari may use a local-first design, which means certain data may primarily remain on your device. However, local-first does not mean that the Service is fully offline or that we never process data related to sync, accounts, support, security, or analytics.
If you choose to use BYOS (“Bring Your Own Storage”), such as S3, WebDAV, NAS, private cloud, or other third-party storage, related data may be stored directly in the environment you choose. You are responsible for the configuration, security, permissions, backups, and availability of that environment.
8. International Data Transfers
You understand that information may be processed and stored on servers, cloud infrastructure, or by service providers located outside your country or region.
If you are located in a jurisdiction with specific rules regarding cross-border data transfers, such as the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, mainland China, or other regions, we will take reasonable measures as required by applicable law to ensure appropriate protection for your personal information.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live and the laws that apply to you, you may have some or all of the following rights:
access your personal information;
correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
delete your personal information;
restrict or object to certain processing;
withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
receive a portable copy of your data;
object to certain automated decision-making, where applicable;
lodge a complaint with a local data protection authority or regulator.
You may also control certain data collection practices through your device, browser, or app settings, such as cookies, notifications, and location permissions.
10. Regional Disclosures
10.1 European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Similar Regions
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a similar jurisdiction, you may have rights under local data protection law. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
10.2 Residents of Certain U.S. States
If you are a resident of certain U.S. states, such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or other states with applicable privacy laws, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of your data. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, although legal definitions may vary.
10.3 Users in Mainland China
If you are located in mainland China, you understand and agree that, in order to provide account, sync, payment, analytics, support, or security-related features of the Service, your personal information may be transferred outside mainland China and processed or stored overseas. We will take measures required by applicable law to protect your personal information.
11. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, such as encryption in transit, access controls, credential protection, security monitoring, and least-privilege practices.
However, no method of transmission over the internet, electronic storage, or system can be guaranteed to be absolutely secure. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Children
The Service is not directed to children under the minimum legal age in their jurisdiction. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without appropriate authorization, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information as soon as practicable.
If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
13. Third-Party Websites and Services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites, products, or services, or integrate with third-party services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
If we make material changes that affect your rights or how we handle data, we will notify you by reasonable means, such as through the Service, on our website, or using contact information you have provided.
The updated version will become effective as of the “Last Updated” date stated in the revised version. By continuing to use the Service after the updated Policy takes effect, you agree to the revised Privacy Policy.
